Margaret Edith Heyes, daughter of Joseph Heyes and Alice Maud Domville, was born on 20 October 1910 at Great Sankey, Lancashire, England,1 and baptized on 4 December 1910 at St. Mary, Great Sankey, Lancashire, England.3

When Edith was 13 years old she and her parents and siblings moved to Canada and settled in St. Catharines, Ontario. Her uncle Peter Heyes had already moved there a few years earlier. The family sailed on the S.S. Montcalm, leaving from Liverpool on 2 November 1923, and arriving in Quebec a few days later. They likely took a train from Quebec to St. Catharines.4,5

When Edith was in high school she became friends with a girl named Marjory Jago. Edith evntually met Marjory's brother, Charles.

Charles and Edith courted for many years before finally getting engaged in 1936 or 1937.6

Margaret Edith Heyes married Charles Alfred Jago, son of Charles Jago and Elizabeth Mary Jenkins, on 24 July 1937 at St. George's Anglican Church, St. Catharines, Ontario.7

Although Edith had been working before she and Charles were married, she spent the next several years working in the home and raising their children.

When the children were in high school English Electric closed their St. Catharines office and Charles had to commute to Toronto to work in the offices there. He would stay at Edith's brother Stan's place during the week and be home for the weekends.

After Gail and Charles finished school, Charles and Edith moved to Toronto.

Edith found a job as a secretary at a local school. She worked there for many years before retiring in the mid-1970s.6

Shortly after their retirements, Charles and Edith moved from Toronto back to St. Catharines.

Charles and Edith spent many of their retirement years travelling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.6

In 1984 Edith suffered a massive stroke early one morning. She was left partially paralyzed on her left side but managed to make good progress with physiotherpy.

Edith told a story of going to the mall with Charles and having difficulty dealing with the escalator which seemed like "a fire-spitting, clanging monster."8

Edith died on 18 September 1986 at Shaver Hospital, St. Catharines, Ontario, at age 75.9 Her funeral was held on 22 September 1986 at St. George's Anglican Church, St. Catharines, Ontario. She was buried on 22 September 1986 at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Christus Garden, block 216c, lot, Fonthill, Ontario.9,2,10
