Samuel Jenkins1

b. before 2 September 1820, d. 2 February 1916
Samuel Jenkins, son of John Jenkins and Elizabeth (--?--), was born at Tresco, Scilly, Cornwall, England,2 and baptized on 2 September 1820 at St. Mary's church, Scilly.2

Samuel married Elizabeth Ashford, daughter of Henry Ashford and Barbara Hicks, on 25 December 1840 at St. Mary's, Scilly, Cornwall, England.3

Although Samuel was described as a labourer on his wedding registration in most other records for the folowing decades he is described as a mariner, a waterman or a boatman.4 In later records Samuel was described as a gardener. In Samuel's obituary it is noted that he "was the last of those left who assisted the late Mr. Augustus Smith to plan and plant the Tresco Abbey Garden."5

Samuel died on 2 February 1916 at St. Mary's, Scilly.
