b. circa 1806, d. after 15 February 1875
David Brown was born circa 1806 in the US. No reliable record found to date gives a specific location, or even a state, for David's birthplace.1,2,3,4

David married Ann Sweetman in about 1830 possibly in Eastern Ontario or possibly in the US.4

David received a patent for the South ½ of lot 11, concession 3 East of Muskrat Lake, Westmeath Township, Renfrew County, Ontario, on 30 December 1840. The lot was 100 acres in size. By this time David and Ann have six children and have likely been in Westmeth for a few years. Settlers usually had to improve the land they wished to purchase from the Crown by clearing trees, building a dwelling and planting some crops

David expanded his farm by an additional 100 acres when he purchased the North ½ of lot 11, concession 3 East of Muskrat Lake, Westmeath Township, on 6 February 1846.7

By the time of the 1852 census David owned, or at least occupied, an additional 300 acres from lots 12 and 13 in concession 3 East of Muskrat Lake.1

On 5 April 1853 David purchased 200 acres on lot 13, concession 3 East of Muskrat Lake, Westmeath Township. David also purchased lot 12 in concession 3 East of Muskrat Lake, a 200 acre lot, but no deed has been found for this transaction. However, he later sold lot 12, so he purchased it at some point.8

David was still farming on 600 acres of property at the time of the 1861 census.2

David sold all of his property to his sons, Augustus and John, on 17 June 1867.9,10

It is not known when David died but it was likely after 15 February 1875.11
