Parania Zwarych

b. circa 1895
Parania Zwarych, a.k.a. Pearl Svarich, daughter of Iwan Zwarych and Maria Dolyniuk, was born circa 1895 at Tulova, Ukraine.1

Parania, her parents and siblings, and several other families left Ukraine to settle in Canada, sailing from Hamburg, Germany, on 4 April 1900 on the S. S. Arcadia2 arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 18 April 1900. For more details of the journey from Tulova to Alberta, see the Zwarycz and Kostaszczuk Emigration.3

Parania married Bill Salamandick in 1912.

In 1916 Bill and Pearl bought some land near Vegreville and built a home there. They lived there until 1952 when Bill died. Pearl then moved to Edmonton.1

Bill and Pearl were members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. Pearl was made an honorary member in 1968.
