Elana Zwarych

b. circa 1884, d. 1920
Elana Zwarych, daughter of Iwan Zwarych and Maria Dolyniuk, was born circa 1884 at Tulova, Ukraine.1

Elana, her parents and siblings, and several other families left Ukraine to settle in Canada, sailing from Hamburg, Germany, on 4 April 1900 on the S. S. Arcadia2 arriving at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 18 April 1900. For more details of the journey from Tulova to Alberta, see the Zwarycz and Kostaszczuk Emigration.3

Elana married Fred Wynnychuk in 1902 at Vegreville.1

Elana and Fred left the homestead in 1913 and moved to Edmonton where the children attended school. Elana loved to read and passed this passion on to the next generations. After her death, her large collection of books was donated to the Edmonton Public Library.

Elana died in 1920 at Edmonton during the infuenza epidemic.1
