Alfred Jago, son of Charles Augustus John Petherick Jago and Emiline Matilda Kneebone, was born between 1 January 1888 and 31 March 1888 at Pendeen, Cornwall, England.
Alfred's father served in the Royal Navy and the Coastguard, so the family moved around a great deal as he was transferred from one Coastguard station to another. They moved to several ports in Cornwall, such as Pendeen and Penzance, and also to Ireland. The family eventually moved back to Devonport.1
Alfred worked as an iron founder at Devonport, Devon.2
