Albert Jago
b. 18 April 1884, d. 29 January 1944
Albert Jago, son of Charles Augustus John Petherick Jago and Emiline Matilda Kneebone, was born on 18 April 1884 at Pendeen, Cornwall, England,1 and baptized on 14 May 1884 at Pendeen.2
Albert's father served in the Royal Navy and the Coastguard, so the family moved around a great deal as he was transferred from one Coastguard station to another. They moved to several ports in Cornwall, such as Pendeen and Penzance, and also to Ireland. The family eventually moved back to Devonport.3
Albert enlisted with the Royal Navy on 24 June 1901 at age 17 and started his service aboard HMS Northampton as a Boy 2nd Class.1
Albert married May E. Alderman in 1916 at Cornwall.
Albert served in the Navy throughout World War I as an Able Seaman on various ships. He continued to serve after the war and was promoted to Leading Seaman on 1 August 1921 while serving aboard HMS Ramillies.1
Albert retired from the Royal Navy on 14 August 1922 while serving on HMS Indus.1
After retirement Albert settled at Marazion, Cornwall, with his wife, May, and their young family.4
Albert died on 29 January 1944 at Marazion at age 59.5 His funeral was held on 8 February 1944 from Marazion Parish Church.5
